ABOUT ALYSIAKnown throughout Western New England for her radio voice on WEIB 106.3 Smooth FM in Northampton, MA; Alysia Cosby, has served as its Program Director and is currently heard on air every Saturday and Sunday 12 - 6p, and online at www.weibfm.com.
Recognizing that music is a uniting and universal language, she skillfully blends jazzy grooves, modern and classic soul, with an eclectic blend of world rhythms on her “Weekend Grooves” show, much to her listeners delight. As such, she was selected the “Top Woman in Radio” for Western Mass Women Magazine’s issue highlighting the “Top 25 Women To Know in 2011-2012”, as well as other awards. Always a writer, she is completing her FIRST book, "Check One Box: Reflections on Race, Ethnicity, and Color" (www.facebook.com/checkonebox). She is currently a Senior Staff Writer for Western Mass Women Magazine, also freelances, while writing and performing her spoken word poetry, and manages several social media sites. Also a performer, she has danced for over 35yrs (including time with Frank Hatchett), sings, acts, and perform whenever the opportunity arises. She attended historic Tuskegee University, where she proudly graduated with her Mechanical Engineering degree, and as an Ordained Minister. Upon graduation, she worked as a project engineer at Hamilton Standard (now Hamilton Sunstrand), a division of United Technologies. Armed with her engineering background and a passion to foster a love of learning and leadership in young people, she entered the Springfield School System where she taught Math, Science, and Media & Society for over 10 years, at the middle and high school levels. Not content to only work with youth during the school year, her love of inspiring young people led her to work at historic Camp Atwater for three years as Program Director. As a minister, she has served in many capacities as teacher, preacher, Assistant Pastor, and on a wide variety of ministries in leadership positions. She is currently an Associate Minister at her childhood church, the historic St. John's in Springfield, MA. Additionally, she is active in her local community as a board member of several organizations committed to serving the community service. Above all, her greatest accomplishment is being mom to (4) amazing "Cosby Kids". In ministry and in life, she is always mindful that "our words have POWER". She continues to look for opportunities to SHARE lessons learned, speak positively, and remind EACH of us of our personal responsibility to make the world a BETTER place..."pay it forward"! |
